Maxwell Foundation works in conjunction with MGM Behavioral and other partners like MGM Academy and Maxwell International Academy in the launching of these two exciting projects:

Community Integration Program for Adults

Maxwell foundation looks to create an integration program for adults diagnosed with ASD in order to increase their quality of life (QoL) and independence skills. The areas of focus included: employment, mental health, and interpersonal relationships.

An estimated 5,437,988 (2.21%) adults in the United States have ASD. The states with the greatest estimated number of adults living with ASD included California (701,669), Texas (449,631), New York (342,280), and Florida (329,131).

The Program will have 12 participants (adults between the ages of 18 and 35 diagnosed with ASD) and they will commit to 10 bi-monthly meetings and case management. The following five program objectives are set to meet the goal:

•To coach the participants on effective engagement skills in order to increase their quality of interpersonal relationships. •To use role, play with participants in order to increase their effectiveness of interviewing skills. • To educate participants about post-secondary education opportunities. •To coach the participants on effective coping skills related to mental health in order to increase their self-esteem and decrease loneliness. •To problem solve and coach participants on IADLs.

The community integration program will be evaluated by its participants. The participants will complete both a pre and post test. The pre/post test will cover the participants baseline knowledge of interpersonal relationships, coping skills, engagement skills and IADLs. Additionally, the pre-test will also ask the participant to write their expectations of the integration program, the staff, and possible goals. Comparatively, the post-test will ask the participants to evaluate their satisfaction of the program, staff and their goal achievement.

School-Community Bridge Program

Autism is a developmental disorder that normally becomes apparent during the first three years of life. In 2020, the CDC reported that about 1 in 54 children has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), according to 2016 data.

ASD is more than 4 times more common among boys than among girls, but affects all ethnic and socioeconomic groups.

1 in 34 boys identified with autism
1 in 144 girls identifies with autism

Autism has a spectrum of behavioral and developmental deviations that affect the individual’s ability to interact with the outer world, to communicate and socialize. When treating autism spectrum disorder, the key is teaching children to express their feelings, understand the feelings of others, and interact with surroundings instead of retreating into their own inner world.

School-Community Bridge Program would offer a variety of services for the clientele, all free of charge, including therapy sessions for children diagnosed with autism. The center would also be actively engaged in local awareness-raising actions to promote the earlier diagnosis of autism and raise parents’ awareness of dangerous symptoms. The center will also provide weekly parenting sessions with therapists and, if possible, run a self-help support group for people living with autism.

A very important component in this program is the professional development of teachers and support staff. It is important that educators develop strategies and tools to achieve the success of students and families who receive the services.

Funds will be used for the opening of the center and will cover operation costs of the first year and to develop new family support programs and support further research of autism spectrum disorder.
